About Rivendwell - The Name

We always get the question - Why the name "Dwell at Rivendell" or "Rivendwell"?

There’s an interesting backstory to the name.

When it came to choosing a name for the 6-acre property, it was very important to understand and comprehend the therapeutic effects it had on people. Numerous friends and family over the years had visited and left rejuvenated and filled with energy. People bonded, relaxed, came up with new ideas and most importantly, did it all in a setting that was extremely conducive to innovation. Being big fans of the Lord Of The Rings, immediate parallels were drawn to Rivendell, an elven haven in J.R.R.Tolkien’s magnum opus.

For the uninformed, Tolkien legend attributes Rivendell as a refuge for the weary and the oppressed, and a treasury of good counsel. In the Lord Of The Rings, Rivendell is often referred to as a sanctuary and a place of healing. Rivendell took on even greater significance in the first book of the Lord of the Rings as it was here that the famed “Council of Elrond” was held, a meeting of people of all races - dwarves, elves, men and hobbits - to decide the fate of the One Ring. It was here that the legendary “Fellowship of the Ring” was formed to take the Ring safely into the depths of Mount Doom, a decision that would save the whole of Middle Earth from destruction.

Given this back story and the similarities shared with the elven realm, it was a natural conclusion to name the property after Rivendell, only, with an additional twist to it. Playing on the meanings of the word dwell - to reside as well as to think and speak at length, the name Rivendwell was born.
